With Microsoft’s recent announcement of the acquisition of certain assets of BHOLD, different Identity and Access Governance industry stakeholders have responded extremely positively to this acquisition.
Please find here a selection of texts that have been published since Microsoft’s recent acquisition.
Ian Glazer, Research Director at Gartner: “BHOLD wins the Microsoft IAG lottery”
“This is a sensible deal for Microsoft. Forefront Identity Manager lacks IAG capabilities and an acquisition strategy makes perfect sense.” “BHOLD had some interesting ways of behaving like a PDP for SharePoint. In some regard, BHOLD was the first vendor to unify IAG and EAM functionality. It will be very interesting to see those if those authorization capabilities end up being used as a module of or bridge to ADFS v2. Time will tell… “ “The lottery works like this. If you get acquired by Microsoft (or Quest), you win! If you don’t get acquired, you lose and the risk to your market increases. Voelker was acquired by Quest. BHOLD is now Microsoft.”

Martin Kuppinger, KuppingerCole: “Microsoft acquires BHOLD technology assets”
“Microsoft thus now owns technology which has been missing in their IAM portfolio until now. Microsoft thus enters the Access Governance market.”
Anyhow, the deal will change the Access Governance market, particularly regarding the offerings which are targeted to complement Microsoft FIM.”
“Overall, this acquisition proves that Microsoft continues investing in the broader IAM space and thus rates this market segment as important to their customers.”
For customers investing or planning to invest into FIM 2010, the acquisition is definitely good news because it means that FIM will grow beyond the somewhat technical approach into a more business-oriented solution over time.”

Jackson Shaw: “Microsoft, BHOLD and what the parrot saw
“Net-net this was a good deal for Microsoft. And what does the parrot see as the top 3 things Microsoft needs to do now that they have acquired “certain assets”?? Execute, execute, execute."
